What is persistence of vision ?

An example of Persistence of Vision is a Zoescope. A Zoescope is a Series of Still images on a piece of a paper which you attach to a wooden object and you slide it in to the wooden object and you twirl it around, your brain focus on the image and tricks you into thinking the series of images are moving.
